Where did you two meet?
We met in high school, and all of his friends tried to date me. We always had a crush on each other throughout high school but nothing ever came of it. When we were 18 (my freshman year of college), I went to Derek's house with my then-sorta-boyfriend (who was also one of Derek's best friends at the time) for New Years Eve. In talking to him there, I found out his birthday was coming up on January 12. So on January 12, I texted that guy I went to Derek's house with on New Years Eve and asked for Derek's number to wish him happy birthday, and we started talking all day, every day. And, 8 years later, here we are :)
How and where was the proposal?
The proposal was on December 13, 2014 (we realized later that the date was 12/13/14, which we thought was really awesome). For me, it was a really normal day leading up to it (although I know it was not for Derek!). I went to work until 1:30, came home and changed clothes, then we went to Home Depot and bought some Drano (haha!). Then Derek suggested that we go take the dogs for a walk around city park lake, which I thought was a great idea. We started walking around and we stopped to sit at a bench that we always stop at when we walk there. Derek then tells me that he made me something and pulls out a photo album. On each page, there's a picture of us on the right and how many days ago that picture was taken was written down on the left ("T-minus 2,631 days" etc.). Derek is kneeling in front of me, but I thought he was just looking at the pictures with me, and I find out momentarily that he was kneeling for a different reason! At one point while I'm looking at the pictures, he throws a rock in the lake but, it turns out, he was actually throwing a rock at a friend who started snapping pictures. On the last page of the photo album, it said "T-minus 0 days" on the left, and the ring was on the right where the picture should be. I was in shock, and apparently my shock reaction (ecstatic shock reaction, that is) is laughter. I had no idea he was proposing until I saw that ring; it was such a surprise and I could not stop smiling and giggling. Derek said some really sweet things, his hands were shaking, and he asked if I would be his wife and I emphatically nodded and yelled yes.
